I loved it when I found a little bottle of foaming hand soap on sale. I put it on the kitchen sink and thoroughly enjoyed using it —all up.
When I went back to the store for more, of course it was no longer on sale and I didn’t feel like paying the 3-dollars-and-something for a rather smallish 8 oz. bottle. I went home and rinsed out the empty bottle and discovered that the labels came off quite easily. Turning it in my hand I realized it could be reused. But with what? The foamy soap had definitely had a lighter viscosity than the regular liquid soap.
Light bulb time… I went into the guest bath and snatched the bottle of clear shampoo I’d found on sale for .99 cents. (Yes I am a thrifty girl!). I poured shampoo into my empty ‘foaming bottle’ about 1/4 of the way up and filled the other 3/4 with warm water. I put on the lid and gently shook it until the water and soap were mixed. The whole thing only took a few seconds.
It made a lovely lather and was kind to my hands. It is probably important to choose a moisturizing or gentle shampoo to use. I was also pleased by the diluted scent, which was pleasant, but not overwhelming. Best of all I figure it would take less than two bottles of shampoo a year for my kitchen pump. –A savings of more than $36.00 a year in kitchen soap alone. And no one will ever know what Penny-pinchers we are. Crazy right? Crazy great.
Great tip Laura , going to try this also. You have so many helpful tips, so glad I found you site 🙂
