Get a Date Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ever thought a chocolate chip cookies recipe could get you asked out?  Well, this one makes it seem possible and I saw it happen.  Repeatedly. 🙂

I saw the consequences of sending these cookies out of the house:   When my daughter, Angel,  was a single girl, she’d take these to work, church, school or a friend and yup, come home having been asked out on a date.  We used to laugh about it.  It was magic.  — The magic of  chocolate, flour, butter and vanilla all put together and baked up in a just-right package.

When Angel left for college I had to create a duplicate using the BOTB mix method. (Because the whole family had fallen for this cookie. )  I am sharing both recipes for you to enjoy.

Angel’s uses a bit of whole wheat in the scratch recipe which definitely adds to the hearty texture.  I left the whole wheat out of the BOTB version for the sake of speed.  I think that one could make the Goody Mix up with up to 1/3 of the flour in whole wheat, if desired.  It would however make baked goods with a heartier texture.  –You choose!

About this chocolate chip cookies recipe in Angel’s own words: “Every single guy I made these cookies for asked me out on a date – without fail.  Now that I am happily married,  that magical side effect is no longer needed.  However,  if this recipe can help a single girl out in her love life, I feel that sharing this recipe is worth it!”

Ingredients

  • 3/4 Cup ( 1 and 1/2 sticks) butter (softened)
  • 1 Cup of sugar
  • 1 Cup of packed brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 T . vanilla
  • (cream these together)
  • Then add:
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 Cups oatmeal (old fashioned is best)
  • 2 Cups whole wheat flour (trust me)
  • 1 – 2 Cups white flour (to get right consistency – dough should be sticky but firm enough to shape into little balls)
  • Half a 16 oz bag of chocolate chips (the darker the chocolate the better)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven 350 degrees.
  • Shape into 1.5 inch balls and place on greased cookie sheet.
  • Bake for 12 to 15 minutes until a light golden color.
  • Let cool for a minute or two on the sheet then transfer to a cooling rack.

Yield: approximately 2 ½ dozen.

Baker’s Secret: The whole wheat flour gives these cookies a beautiful golden color and makes them extremely satisfying. When I lived with my parents I would grind some whole wheat and use the fresh flour in the dough. Store bought whole wheat flour will give you great results as well.
