I am a woman with a clever family. On Monday, my son Curtis, who is both a magician and special effects artist, posted his ALS Ice Bucket Challenge:
He challenged both my husband , NYT best-selling author Tracy Hickman, and my daughter Angel Peterson. (Angel of Fleecefun.com).
Angel, made a tutorial (of course) about how you can participate in the ALS challenge:
Tracy in turn made his video with which I assisted:
If you go to the 1 min and 10 seconds time mark in Tracy’s video you will see that I managed to splash myself as will as Tracy…sigh…
I am currently madly packing to get on a plane to Atlanta to appear with Tracy at Dragon Con. So rather than get wet again… I’ve chosen to simply make a donation at ALSA.org.
I have a personal reason for donating. The picture below is Osral B Allred, a wonderful artist and dear watercolor instructor, whose life and art were eclipsed by ALS.
He was quick with a joke and a smile. His advice about what kind of art to pursue: “Try everything or you might miss out on something great!”
He painted this in a couple of hours one afternoon in class as we watched on:
My family and I have all donated to finding a cure for ALS. My challenge is to you dear readers: Please take the Ice Bucket Challenge and/or Donate at ALSA.org today.
I enjoyed this post so much! Mostly because it reacquainted me with my old Snow College Art teacher, Osral Allred. He will never know what his instruction meant to me, but it has stuck with me ever since I had the pleasure to learn from him. There hasn’t been a teacher who has come since that has been as influential to me in art as he was. I have a new reason to take up the ALS cause myself. Thank you for that.
Since I can not do the Ice Bucket Challenge I am going to do the donating. I have a sweet cousin on my hubbies side who has it. It is so painful to watch someone who was always so energetic be in a wheelchair and has a hard time speaking. You can still see the shine in her eyes though especially when she is with her children and loved ones.

Thank you Ann!
